Neck Pain Relief

Neck pain can occur as both a chronic condition and as a result of trauma. It can sometimes happen due to repetitive tasks that place added strain on your neck, including if you spend a large amount of time each week using a computer workstation that isn’t ergonomic. No matter the cause of your neck pain, it is a type of pain that often requires treatment to relieve.

Manhattan Physical Therapy and Pain Center can help you alleviate your neck pain through physical therapy. Call us at (212) 213-3480 to schedule an appointment. Our staff will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about your condition and to walk you through the steps of treatment.

What Counts as Neck Pain

Neck pain often isn’t isolated to only the vertebrae in the neck. Neck pain originating from the cervical spine can present and radiate into the head, neck, jaw, chest, upper back, shoulder, arm, wrist, fingers and, in some cases, into the lower back and extremities. It is important to have a doctor diagnose your neck pain so that you can start treatment right away. The sooner that you start treatment, the sooner you can experience some relief.

Neck Pain Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of neck pain include:

  • • Pain
  • • Weakness
  • • Stiffness
  • • Dead arm feeling
  • • Pins and needles
  • • Numbness
  • • Clumsiness

Physical Therapy Assessment for Neck Pain

A formal physical therapy assessment is needed to verify whether the signs and symptoms are coming from the cervical spine or other sources. This will likely take place during your first or second visit to the physical therapist. At Manhattan Physical Therapy, the Redcord Suspension System is used to assess muscle weaknesses and imbalances. The results of the assessment will be utilized to create a benchmark to compare future assessments against. This way, you will be able to see how much you’ve progressed through the course of treatment.

Common Causes of Neck Pain

We’ve assessed and treated many different causes of neck pain at Manhattan Physical Therapy and Pain Center, including:

Neck Pain Treatment

During your physical therapy sessions, your physical therapist will use a customized treatment plan full of exercises that address your specific problem. They will walk you through the steps of the exercise, as well as give you tips on how to improve your form. In most cases, you will have exercises that you will be expected to complete at home without the physical therapist. If you have any questions about how to do certain exercises, you will be able to ask these questions during your regular appointment. You might have physical therapy one, two, or three times each week.
